Mission Outreach: Bringing Fashion into Native's culture in right context

December 2008

2WJD visited Pima tribe in Phoenix Arizona with SOG Crew to introduce faith-based fashion into Pima tribe culture to raise an awareness of importance of individual self-esteem in youth.

We presented "make over" photo session with hair and makeup for tribe's youth and dress them up in 2WJD clothes.

We provided a photo booth to capture inner beauty as well as the opportunity to explore faith based fashion in positive contents and environment.

For hair styles, we respected culture's request of not curling their hairs but weaving and rearranging their own hair to show their characteristics of individuality.

Through make-up, we used their favorite colors and matching colors to clothes in order to enhance their natural beauty rather than imitating what the world says what the beauty is.

Through these beauty sessions, we were able to talk with the youth and communicate each other to understand our cultural differences.

They explored fashion, colors, styling, posing, and bringing out their personalities through photos as fashion models do.

We had a great opportunity to present what beauty is as inner beauty as well as outer beauty.

The heritages that Pima tribe has kept through out years are one of the true beauty.

We Also learned present community conditions and the community needs in real life within Pima tribe in Phoenix, Arizona.

We'd like to support those who are reaching out to who are in need in their community.
